Meet Megan U. No, this is her rockstar daughter, Willow!
First Name & Last Initial:
When did you first start CrossFitting:
I initially joined a CrossFit gym almost three years ago, due to a few life circumstances it became difficult to attend regularly, and despite really loving the workouts I couldn’t continue at that point. My parents and younger sister have been crossfitting for a few years now and I was dying to get back in it which lead me to IHCF.
When did you first start training at IHCF:
So far the most rewarding WOD was the “Gallant” Veteran’s Day workout. It pushed me to my limits, but the meaning behind the workout and the feeling of “holy crap I really just did all that” made it humbling and rewarding at the same time> I also love any workout with running or lifting really heavy.
Least Favorite WOD:
I dislike WODs with rowing quite a bit, but I really need to get that out of my head and learn to love it!
Tell us about your sports and fitness background:
I was a multi-sport athlete throughout my life: swimming, soccer, and softball mostly. I went to a small college and played a few years of softball, as well. Ever since my days of playing organized sports were over I’ve tried multiple types of training, but couldn’t really find one I liked enough to stick to long-term, until I found CrossFit.
How did you first get exposed to CrossFit? Take us back to your first WOD… What was it and how did it feel:
My parents actually started crossfitting about 4 years ago. Pretty soon thats all they could talk about. My dad was the first one to take me to a box. its been a while but I believe it was a team workout that included a combination of knee raises, KB swings, and DB lunges. It was incredibly hard not only because it was a crossfit workout, but I was also at the least fit point in my life, but I couldn’t wait to go back.
What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health, and fitness since starting CrossFit (before/after):
Muscles! 🙂 and an increase in energy, and nutrition awareness. When you work this hard to keep your body fit its more motivating to clean up other aspects of your life as well.
What sort of changes in your life have you experienced out of taking on something like CrossFit that were totally unexpected:
I wasn’t sure when I started coming how my daughter Willow would handle coming to the gym with me most days. I believe it has not only increased my love for fitness, but has made my daughter more excited to be active, athletic and healthy as well. She is almost as excited as I am to come to CrossFit!
Please share with us any favorite CrossFit/IHCF moments:
Every PR me or my fellow Iron Hero members achieve, the HalloWOD, and the Vala’s outing!
Any advice for people just getting started:
Don’t be afraid to push yourself to your limits, awesome things happen when you do!
What are your hobbies, interests, and/or talents outside of CrossFit:
I don’t have a lot of free time outside of work, school, and being a mom, but I just love a good book, live music, wine, and being outdoors as much as possible until it drops below 45 degrees – then I don’t like leaving my house haha.
Thanks for being a part of the IHCF Family, Megan! Really, we should say thanks Megan and Willow!
