3 Steps to Build Consistency in Your Workouts

We’ve all been there—starting a new fitness routine full of enthusiasm, only to find ourselves skipping workouts a few weeks in. Life gets busy, motivation dips, and before you know it, you’re back to square one. But here’s the thing: consistency is key when it comes to fitness. It’s not about how hard you go on day one—it’s about showing up regularly, week after week.

The good news is that building consistency doesn’t have to be a struggle. By taking a few simple, practical steps, you can make working out a habit that sticks. Here are 3 strategies to help you stay on track and make fitness a regular part of your life.

1. Schedule It Like an Appointment

You wouldn’t cancel a meeting with your boss or skip a dentist appointment, right? Treat your workouts the same way—like a non-negotiable part of your day.

The first step to staying consistent is to put your workouts on your calendar. Decide in advance what days and times you’ll be working out, and block off that time just like any other important commitment. Whether it’s early in the morning, during lunch, or after work, having a set time creates structure and makes it harder to brush off a workout.

If you’re someone with a busy schedule, look at your calendar for the week ahead and plan accordingly. Maybe you can fit in a 30-minute session before work one day and a quick workout after work another day. The key is to make it fit your life, not the other way around.

2. Focus on the Process, Not the Outcome

One of the biggest consistency killers is focusing too much on the end result. Whether it’s weight loss, building muscle, or running faster, being hyper-focused on hitting certain goals can actually make it harder to stick with your routine.

Instead, shift your focus to the process itself—what you can control on a daily and weekly basis. Did you show up for your workout today? Great, that’s a win. Did you follow through with your plan for the week? Even better.

By celebrating the small wins along the way, you’ll stay more motivated and feel a sense of accomplishment, even if you haven’t hit your bigger goals yet. Remember, fitness is a journey, not a destination. The more you enjoy the process, the more likely you are to stick with it.

3. Find Accountability (and Make It Fun!)

It’s a lot easier to hit the snooze button or skip the gym when no one’s counting on you. That’s why accountability is so important for staying consistent. Whether it’s a workout buddy, one of our amazing Personal Trainers, or in on one of our CrossFit classes, having someone else in the mix can make all the difference.

When you have a workout partner or someone checking in on your progress, you’re less likely to bail on your sessions. It also makes the experience more enjoyable. When fitness becomes a social activity, it’s not just something you “have to do”—it’s something you look forward to.

If you’re going solo, try joining a group class or finding an online fitness community where you can share your progress, challenges, and victories. The more fun and engaging the process is, the more consistent you’ll be.

Consistency is the Secret Ingredient

Consistency isn’t about going hard every single day—it’s about showing up regularly and making fitness a part of your routine. By scheduling your workouts, focusing on the process, and finding accountability, you’ll build a foundation that keeps you on track long-term.
