How Does This Benefit Me?

But How Does This Benefit Me?

Last week, I wrote about being active and finding interests OUTSIDE the gym to keep you motivated INSIDE the gym.  Let’s face it, at some point we could all use this!

Well…

You have most likely heard the phrase “if you don’t take care of yourself, you won’t be able to take care of anyone else,” or something to that effect.  And while this is true, it’s also true the same could be said about “if you don’t take care of yourself, you won’t be able to pursue *insert interest here.*”

  • If you love golf, it’s probably important you have the endurance and stamina to play as much as you want to play.  You don’t want to fatigue and fade on the back 9, do you?
  • If you want to go on a hike with your significant other, you probably don’t want to have to worry about whether or not you’re going to make it up that hill.  I don’t know about you but I’d rather be in the moment with them.
  • If it’s important to you to be able to play with your kids until they tired of playing with you, you probably need to have the energy to do so.  It may never happen but hey, you can try!

The ultimate goal to working on your health and fitness is really to not HAVE to worry about whether or not you can do something; it’s about being able to ask yourself WHEN are you going to do something.

Understanding how all of this is benefiting you, in YOUR big picture, goes a long ways in keeping you consistent and involved in taking ownership of your health and fitness.

Remember, these are two completely different questions:

  • Will I make it to 75 years old?
  • Will there be enough for me to do when I make it to 75 years old?
