How did you first get exposed to CrossFit?  Take us back to your first WOD… what was it and how did it feel:

I have competed in body building shows for the past 4 years and felt like I was in a training rut.  I wanted to try something new that challenged me both mentally and physically.  I love having a goal and working towards it.  My husband and I knew Chris outside of Iron Hero and my husband is really the one who encouraged me to give it a try.  I’m so glad I did!  I have experienced many workouts ever since that have me lying on the ground after in a pool of sweat and I LOVE IT.  I love how good I feel after and how proud I am of the new things I have learned and continue to learn.

What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health, and fitness since starting CrossFit (before/after):

I would say it is more about the changes mentally for me.  It is hard for me when I can’t pick something up right away and there have been many skills (ahem kipping pull-ups) that I can not seem to master on my first try.  So that has been hard for me but once I took a step back and remembered the only person I am competing against is myself, it made it easier.  I enjoy learning new skills and have added many to my roster that I am proud of:  double unders, clean and jerk and handstand push ups to name a few.

Please share with us any favorite CrossFit/IHCF moments:

Competing in my first competition with my fellow teammates was so fun.  The support and community really is something you have to experience for yourself to believe how encouraging and empowering it can be.  Oh, and my first handstand push up was pretty rad, too.

Any advice for people just getting started:

Don’t give up, remember that you are only trying to beat your previous time and/or get better for you.  And to have FUN!

What are your hobbies, interests, and/or talents outside of CrossFit:

Spending time with my husband and our two dogs, shopping, hanging out with my girlfriends and going on beach vacations.
