A surprisingly common phrase we hear is, “I need to get in shape before I can start with you guys.” I cannot tell you how frustrating it is to hear something like this.
This is frustrating on a couple of different levels: first, it suggests that CrossFit is only for the fitter, and more elite, individuals. Second, what is this invisible benchmark of “ready?” Do you know? I sure as hell don’t.
Here’s a thought experiment:
You’re going to be building a new house and know you want help at some point in the design and build process. You’re just not sure when that is. So, you begin by digging the foundation yourself and you start pouring concrete. It is at this point that you figure out you don’t have the basement rooms the size you want, you missed the necessary permits, and didn’t think about how that would affect the remainder of the house.
This means that there’s lots of work to get back to the ‘blank slate’ which was a better starting point in the first place.
Now, let’s get back to something I actually know about because home building is not it. Obviously…
Ask yourself this question:
Would you want somebody to help you avoid common mistakes and hazards from the beginning so that you can start from a much better place? This also translates to developing much better habits which will serve you for long-term results.
I guess that means the answer to this question is, “no. You do not need to be in shape to start CrossFit. In fact, it’s better to start with a professional in virtually every way.”
And, because everybody starts in a different place, we meet you at the place you’re starting even if you’ve been training for a long time!Ready for help? Click HERE and schedule your free No Sweat Intro and we’ll guide you from the very beginning!
